What is Specific Learning Disability?
A Specific Learning Disability (SLD) interferes with a person's ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or calculate. Specific learning disabilities often involve weaknesses in at least one cognitive process and are diagnosed through a careful analysis of information from a variety of sources, including psychometric and educational assessment data.
Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Written Expression Disorder (Dysgraphia) are Specific Learning Disabilities.
Gifted and Twice Exceptional learners (2e) can be identified through the assessment process.
Language and speech difficulties, such as Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), can be discovered during assessment, with referrals made for further evaluation, support and diagnosis.
Cognitive and Educational Assessment
A Cognitive and Educational Assessment considers information from a variety of sources alongside psychometric and educational assessment data gathered through in-person assessment sessions. Assessment is available for children, teenagers and adults.
A comprehensive cognitive, academic and oral language profile contributes to a diagnosis of Specific Learning Disability. Sometimes, multiple learning strengths and challenges are identified, and referrals for consideration of other neurodevelopmental and language differences are suggested.
Assessment is a validating process that provides people with new ways to consider their strengths and weaknesses. Personalised accommodations, recommendations, Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) and learning strategies help determine the next steps in a learning journey.
